The Indian Muscular Dystrophy Society and Research Center (IMDSRC) is an Ahmedabad-based voluntary, nonprofit organization supporting people with muscular dystrophy and their families. Founded by Bharat S. Shah and Neela B.
Shah, whose children were affected by the condition, the society aims to offer hope through awareness, care, and community support. Its work includes sharing information about muscular dystrophy, connecting families with guidance, and arranging medicines and physiotherapy exercises for members according to individual needs. IMDSRC also organizes medical camps and community events, including annual get-togethers, kite festivals, musical programs, and occasional picnics for people it calls its “IMDS warriors.
” The organization is developing the Rishil Rehabilitation Center project, intended to provide structured rehabilitation and support. Its wider mission includes advancing research and improving the detection, treatment, and rehabilitation of muscular dystrophy. Supported by clinicians, scientists, trustees, volunteers, and concerned citizens, IMDSRC invites people to participate through membership, volunteering, donations, and awareness efforts.
