The Injured Military Wildlife Project of North Dakota (IMWPND) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving injured military veterans through hunting opportunities. Founded by Glenn Gietzen, the organization worked to secure legislation that provided it with deer licenses for veteran hunts. Its deer program helps eligible injured veterans who may face physical barriers or lack the connections needed to arrange a successful hunt. Applicants must meet the program’s requirements, including a Purple Heart or duty-related injury. Since its inaugural season in 2011, the project has helped veterans take part in deer hunts across North Dakota, with participation growing over the years.
IMWPND also coordinates a cow elk culling program in partnership with the National Park Service at the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The program invites honorably discharged veterans born in North Dakota to volunteer; a Purple Heart or duty-related injury is not required for this opportunity. The organization accepts donations and states that all proceeds go back to injured military veterans.
