About InCommonUS
InCommon is a brand that provides comprehensive solutions for single sign-on, access to cloud services, and collaboration for students, faculty, staff, and researchers. With a focus on identity and access management at scale, InCommon offers integrated service and software solutions to address the needs of the academic and research community.
Founded in 2000 as part of Internet2's trusted access initiative, InCommon has since grown to include the InCommon Certificate Service and the responsibility for eduroam in the U.S. The InCommon Certificate Service offers unlimited server and security certificates for higher education and research institutions, while eduroam provides seamless roaming Wi-Fi access at participating organizations.
In 2014, InCommon launched the TIER program, which aimed to enhance the trust and identity infrastructure for education and research institutions. Although the TIER program ended in 2018, InCommon continues to sustain the integrated identity and access management suite of software.
Governed by the InCommon Steering Committee and supported by advisory groups, InCommon ensures the development and implementation of effective technical and policy recommendations. Their official policies, service-specific documents, and trademark information can be found on their website.
InCommon is committed to providing reliable solutions and support that facilitate secure and efficient collaboration within the academic and research community.
