The Independence Center is a West Los Angeles organization that helps adults with learning differences develop the skills and confidence to live more independently. Its structured, supervised programs support people transitioning from high school or family homes, as well as those who need continued assistance after living on their own. Residents live with roommates in individual apartments across a gated residential complex, learning practical skills through hands-on experience in a mainstream community setting.
The Center’s residential program provides comprehensive support for adults who are beginning independent living or need a higher level of guidance. As residents progress, recreational activities and independent living services offer a more flexible level of support. Services may include social and recreational activities, vocational support, budgeting, individual and group counseling, and crisis intervention. Group activities also help participants practice everyday tasks such as shopping, laundry, exercise, communication, and job searching. Field trips provide additional opportunities for learning and social interaction.
