Index Fungorum is an online resource providing nomenclatural data for the scientific names of fungi. Its coverage includes yeasts, lichens, chromistan and protozoan fungal analogues, and fossil forms, with names recorded across all taxonomic ranks. The resource has been available digitally since 1986 and is published on the internet by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. For taxonomic information, users are directed to the related Species Fungorum resource.
Index Fungorum supports researchers and others working with fungal names through search tools and name-registration services. Users can register a new name that is soon to be published, including a new taxon, a new combination, or a replacement name. They can also submit a name that has already been published but is missing from the database. The site offers information about the resource, acknowledgements, publishing guidance, data help, and contact details for its curator, Dr. Mounes Bakhshi. By maintaining and facilitating access to nomenclatural records, Index Fungorum helps users consult and contribute to a structured reference for fungal names.
