Indiana Fox Trotters

The Indiana Fox Trotter Association (IFTA) is a community of people dedicated to enjoying the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse and supporting the integrity of the breed. Open to riders with varied interests, the association welcomes members who enjoy trail riding, camping with horses, showing, competition, endurance, or pleasure riding. Its activities include trail rides, events, and clinics, offering opportunities to ride with others, meet new friends, and explore scenic trails in Indiana. The association also provides information about membership, forms, news, and member classifieds.

IFTA promotes the Missouri Fox Trotter, a versatile horse valued for its smooth, comfortable gait, surefootedness, endurance, and gentle temperament. The breed’s characteristic fox trot is a rhythmic, broken-diagonal gait that helps make long rides comfortable, while its natural flat-foot walk and canter add to its usefulness. Developed in the Ozark Mountains to perform many kinds of work, the breed is now enjoyed for trail riding and other pursuits, as well as admired in the show ring.
