About Indian Bonsai Associaton
The Indian Bonsai Association, founded on March 9, 1981, by Dr. Leila Dhanda and Dr. Hussain Tayebbhoy, is dedicated to promoting the art of bonsai in India. With approximately 200 active members, this leading organization serves as a hub for bonsai enthusiasts. Bonsai, which translates to a tree or plant in a tray, originated in China and was refined in Japan, showcasing the natural beauty of trees in miniature form. The association focuses on educating members on the delicate techniques of bonsai cultivation, including meticulous pruning, watering, and feeding, to achieve the artistic impression of age and grace in these living sculptures.
One of the association's significant contributions is the National Bonsai Park located at Lodhi Garden in New Delhi, established in collaboration with the local municipal council. Opened in 1996, the park is designed in the traditional Japanese style and offers visitors free access to explore an array of meticulously cared-for bonsai plants. The association also organizes annual exhibitions and conventions, further fostering community engagement and appreciation for bonsai artistry.
