The Indian Chemical Society (ICS) is a scientific society founded in 1924 to serve as a national forum for chemists and professionals in allied disciplines. Established during India’s independence movement, it was inspired by the vision of researchers J. N. Mukherjee, J. C. Ghosh and S. S. Bhatnagar. Today, the Society promotes education, research and innovation in chemistry through publications, professional networks, events and recognition of achievement.
ICS offers membership options for students, individuals, fellows, institutions and corporate members, with branches across India. Its awards include lifetime achievement and endowment honours, alongside memorial awards and lectures recognizing contributions to the field. The Society publishes the Journal of the Indian Chemical Society and the periodical Education in Chemical Science and Technology, and provides access to archived journal issues and books on chemistry and its history.
ICS also organizes annual conventions, conferences, seminars, webinars and educational programmes on subjects ranging from chemical sciences and sustainable development to environmental chemistry, materials and chemical education.
