About Indy Autonomous Challenge
Indy Autonomous Challenge is an innovative brand that is pushing the boundaries of autonomous vehicle technology. Organized by Energy Systems Network (ESN), a non-profit based in Indianapolis, and supported by the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, the Indy Autonomous Challenge is a global competition that challenges university students to develop cutting-edge software for fully autonomous racecars. Inspired by the success of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Grand Challenge, the IAC aims to accelerate the commercialization of autonomous vehicles and advance the deployment of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
By harnessing the power of competition, the IAC brings together public-private partnerships and academic institutions to foster innovation and inspire the next generation of STEM talent. Addressing real-world issues, the IAC focuses on solving edge case scenarios, catalyzing new AV technologies and innovators, and engaging the public to ensure acceptance and use of AV technologies. Through this groundbreaking competition, the IAC aims to improve safety, vehicle performance, and the overall future of transportation.
In its inaugural event in October 2021, 21 universities from 9 countries formed 9 teams and competed for the prestigious $1 million grand prize, with TUM Autonomous Motorsport from Technische Universität München taking home the top honor. With expert advisors in automotive engineering, robotics, education, and auto racing, the Indy Autonomous Challenge is at the forefront of technological innovation in the autonomous vehicle industry.
