El Instituto de Estudios Comparados en Ciencias Penales y Sociales (INECIP) inició sus actividades en 1989 en Buenos Aires, Argentina, con la misión de contribuir a la consolidación y el progresivo fortalecimiento del Estado de Derecho en los países de América Latina y del Caribe. Para ello, ha trabajado intensamente en el campo específico de los procesos de transformación de los sistemas judiciales y de los sistemas penales ligados a la transición democrática, promoviendo la defensa de los derechos fundamentales de las personas.
