About Ingglish
Ingglish is a phonetic English spelling project built around a simple idea: English words should be written in a way that better reflects how they sound. Rather than relying on conventional spellings, it respells words by pronunciation, with each spelling representing the same sound consistently. The project uses the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary, which contains more than 126,000 words, to look up how English words are pronounced and convert them into phonetic spellings.
Visitors can browse phonetic versions of common English words, making Ingglish a practical way to explore its approach and see how familiar vocabulary changes when spelling follows sound. The project is intended to make English spelling more predictable and easier to understand by connecting written forms more directly to pronunciation. Ingglish also provides access to its project on GitHub, where interested users can learn more about its implementation. Overall, it offers a focused alternative spelling system and an accessible demonstration of how English might look if its written forms consistently represented spoken sounds.
