Initiative D21 has been supporting the digital transformation for almost 25 years. They strive to promote forward-thinking and early debates, encouraging critical thinking and discussions about the necessary changes brought by digitalization. Their focus areas include digitalization and sustainability, resilience in the digital age, digital administration, education, and digital skills, as well as digital value creation.

One of their key initiatives is the annual D21-Digital-Index, providing a comprehensive overview of how the German population is adapting to digitalization and how well-prepared they are for the challenges of the digital era. This year, the index explores resilience in the digital age and digital value creation. They also conduct studies and publish reports such as the eGovernment MONITOR, which examines the use and acceptance of digital administrative services from the citizens' point of view.

Additionally, the 21st Century Schools report assesses the state of digital education in the 16 federal states of Germany from the perspective of parents. Through their work, Initiative D21 aims to foster a network for the digital society, facilitating thought leadership and timely discussions on digital transformation. They host events that bring together industry experts and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and insights.
