The Foundation for Innovation for Democracy is a pan-African organization established under South African law, working to renew democratic thought and practice across Africa. It brings together a network of laboratories and engages with African diasporas and partners elsewhere in the world. Its approach draws on endogenous knowledge, collective intelligence and participatory dialogue to help communities imagine and shape democratic futures.

The Foundation’s work spans four connected areas. It promotes open research, gathers local knowledge, encourages debate and supports the shared development of new ideas. It offers training courses, thematic schools, camps, citizen conversations and online or in-person debates to strengthen skills, autonomy and civic engagement. Through its network programmes, it identifies, connects and publicizes initiatives led by women and young people, and supports collectives advancing democracy. It also shares intellectual and educational materials, including resources it produces, sources or gathers collaboratively.

Throughout the year, the Foundation hosts conferences, workshops, seminars and other public events, and provides local actors with educational pathways and resources.
