InGAME is a creative research and development partnership established to support growth and innovation in Dundee’s videogames cluster. From 2018 to 2024, it pioneered a collaborative model connecting academia and industry, placing research and innovation infrastructure at the heart of the games sector. Its work aimed to make creative experimentation less risky, build businesses’ capacity to scale, and broaden opportunities for growth and innovation.
InGAME offered a platform for industry collaboration and applied research, alongside resources such as an Innovation Toolkit and an Applied Games Lab. Through its projects and expertise, the partnership helped videogame businesses develop ideas, test new approaches and strengthen professional skills. In five years, it delivered 177 industry collaborations, upskilled 2,283 professionals and stimulated £11.5 million in industry co-investment. Its anticipated long-term impact is £84.7 million in gross value added for the Scottish economy, equivalent to a 16-fold return on the original public investment. Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, InGAME brought together research, practical support and industry engagement to advance innovation in videogames.
