Inovar Autismo

Inovar Autismo is a Portuguese national association founded in 2016 to promote human rights and the inclusion of autistic people in society. Established by members with and without autism and their families, the organisation focuses on challenging stigma and prejudice and encouraging acceptance of difference. It works across seven districts in Portugal, supporting autistic people, families and local communities through projects, training and services.

The association’s initiatives span education, culture, recreation, employment and self-advocacy. These include training teachers to support inclusive learning, helping cultural venues become more accessible, expanding inclusive play and leisure opportunities, and preparing young autistic people for employment through training, mentoring and links with businesses. Its European projects develop young people’s self-advocacy and rights leadership. Through Impulsionando Direitos, Transformando Vidas (IDTV), Inovar Autismo also offers free training on disability rights for professionals and other key audiences. The organisation provides resources, seminars and community activities, and invites individuals and companies to support its work through membership, partnerships and other forms of involvement.
