InPipe Energy

InPipe Energy helps water utilities, cities, agricultural businesses, and other water-intensive organizations recover energy from water moving through pipelines. Its HydroXS system uses in-conduit hydropower technology to generate electricity from existing or new water infrastructure while helping manage pressure and flow. The resulting power can reduce energy costs and provide a predictable source of electricity, while recovered energy can support investment in aging facilities and strengthen resilience amid rising utility costs and climate pressures.

InPipe offers a free, system-wide assessment that uses utility data to identify and rank promising sites, followed by site evaluation, preliminary engineering, and payback analysis. Projects are structured as long-term energy-as-a-service partnerships: InPipe funds installation, owns, operates, and maintains the system, while the utility pays for the energy produced and may have the option to purchase the equipment later. This approach can provide energy benefits without an upfront capital budget. InPipe reports installations at East Bay Municipal Utility District in California and Aurora Water in Colorado, and says eligible projects may access federal funding.
