The Institut pour la photographie is a photography-focused cultural organisation founded in 2018 by the Hauts-de-France Region in collaboration with Les Rencontres d’Arles. Based in Lille, it works to broaden public engagement with photography, preserve and share photographic heritage, and support research and artistic creation. Its programme brings photography to audiences through exhibitions, events, workshops and guided visits, while its online resources, collections, photographers’ archives and library offer ways to explore the medium and its history.
The Institute also supports emerging research and creative work through its research and creation grant, alongside initiatives such as a support fund for children’s photobooks and the Francophone meetings on the history of photography. Its activities include educational programmes designed to encourage people to look closely and develop their understanding of images. Through partnerships and public programming, the Institut connects artists, researchers, heritage collections and visitors.
Its Lille exhibition site is currently temporarily closed, while its administrative offices remain at a separate address in the city
