Institut Cantillon, formerly the Institut Bien Commun, is an independent French institute founded in 2020 to inform public debate through rigorous, fact-based analysis. Its work is open to a plurality of viewpoints and guided by the general interest, with contributions addressing contemporary social, economic and environmental challenges in France and Europe. The institute takes inspiration from economist Richard Cantillon and his analysis of economic activity, production, distribution and money.
Its publications examine public policy and current issues, and aim to offer concrete proposals grounded in evidence rather than ideological preference. Recent work includes the launch of the Observatoire du Déclin Agricole, which documents changes in French agriculture and examines food production and independence. The institute also organises the Rencontres Cantillon, formerly the Rencontres du Bien Commun, bringing members and partners into conversation with public decision-makers and recognised experts. These events provide a forum for exchange and reflection on topics such as responsible capitalism, public services and the social and solidarity economy.
