Intercon, officially known as the Intercontinental Amateur Traffic Net, has been a vital platform for emergency communications since its founding on September 8, 1960. Originally established by a group of seven radio operators, Intercon has grown to offer its services seven days a week, ensuring that amateur radio operators worldwide can connect and support one another. The net is dedicated to providing communication assistance during local disasters such as fires, earthquakes, and storms, as well as facilitating third-party traffic between individuals and organizations globally, aligning with international treaties.

With a mission to promote goodwill and foster friendly relations among operators, Intercon maintains a presence on the IARU Global Center of Activity frequency of 14.300 MHz, ready to respond to any emergent situations that may arise. Led by an experienced team, including Net Manager Holger E. Skurbe, K2HES, Intercon exemplifies organization and discipline in serving the amateur radio community.
