Interior Alaska Land Trust | Fairbanks AK

The Interior Alaska Land Trust (IALT) is a private, non-profit organization that was established in 1995. Our primary mission is to conserve land to benefit the community, specifically in the areas north of the Alaska Range. We work closely with landowners in Interior Alaska to protect, acquire, or manage various aspects of the property, including natural, scenic, recreational, agricultural, historic, or cultural features.

As a land trust, we believe in the enjoyment, stewardship, and voluntary conservation of land. We emphasize integrity through honest and transparent partnerships and strive to build a strong and responsive community.

Land trusts can be found across the country, with over 1,600 organizations collectively protecting more than 12 million acres of land in the United States. In Alaska alone, there are seven land trusts, including IALT. We operate locally but receive professional support from the national organization, the Land Trust Alliance.

In the Fairbanks area and the Fairbanks North Star Borough, we work diligently to address land use issues resulting from ongoing development. By holding easements on private lands, we can protect open spaces, connect greenways and trails, and reduce estate taxes for landowners.

Our primary conservation approach is through voluntary conservation easements, which are customized to meet the needs of each landowner and the characteristics of the land. As a land trust, we actively monitor these easements to ensure the long-term preservation of the land's conservation values.

Join us in our mission to conserve and protect the land for the future benefit of the community. You can become a member, donate, or volunteer with us. Contact us today to learn more about the various ways you can support the Interior Alaska Land Trust's efforts.
