Intermountain Histories is a free website and mobile app that curates histories of the Intermountain West regions of Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. Explore the region’s peoples, places, institutions, events, cultures, and more. Using an interactive GPS-enabled map, you can take virtual or physical walking tours of historic sites. As your personal tour guide, Intermountain Histories provides historical information, photographs and images, documentary videos, audio interviews, oral histories, bibliographic citations, and other resources as you explore. Hosted and managed by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University, the collaborative project features carefully researched histories developed by students and professors from institutions around the Intermountain West. Along with the web-based version, mobile apps are available for IOS and Android. New pins will be dropped on the map continually as collaborators conduct new research, so check back often. Follow the project Facebook and Twitter accounts for notices of updated content at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainHistories and http://www.twitter.com/InterMtnHistory. About Intermountain Histories
Intermountain Histories is a free digital history resource that explores the people, places, institutions, events, and cultures of Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. Hosted and managed by Brigham Young University’s Charles Redd Center for Western Studies, the project brings together carefully researched stories created by students and professors at institutions across the region.
Visitors can browse individual stories, search historical topics, or follow themed tours through an interactive, GPS-enabled map. Tours support both virtual exploration and visits to historic locations, with the website and mobile apps for iOS and Android serving as guides. Content may include historical background, photographs, documentary videos, audio interviews, oral histories, bibliographic citations, and related resources. Featured and recent stories cover subjects such as settlement, transportation, agriculture, tourism, race, and immigration, while classroom collections highlight research developed in university settings. New research adds locations and stories to the map over time, making the site an evolving resource for learning about the Intermountain West.
