About ICC Canada
ICC Canada, a branch of the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC), is a major international non-government organization that represents approximately 160,000 Inuit across Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and Chukotka in Russia. With Consultative Status II at the United Nations, ICC Canada aims to unite Inuit voices and promote their rights and interests on a global scale. Established in 1977 by the late Eben Hopson of Barrow, Alaska, ICC has become an influential advocate for Inuit communities, working tirelessly to protect their way of life and the Arctic environment.
Through their General Assembly, held every four years, ICC Canada elects a new Chair and executive council, develops policies, and adopts resolutions to guide their activities. This gathering serves as a platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and strengthening the bond between all Inuit. ICC Canada also collaborates closely with the Inuit Circumpolar Youth Council and the International Elders Council.
