About In VitroMicroplants
In Vitro Microplants Ltd is a plant tissue culture laboratory based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, dedicated to propagating and conserving endangered plant species. The company specialises in in vitro micropropagation using apical and axillary meristems from buds, as well as embryos. In a controlled, sterile laboratory environment, it develops large numbers of genetically identical microplants, supporting efficient and sustainable plant propagation. Its work includes rare and threatened trees such as elm, ash and chestnut, alongside Scotland’s distinctive Arran whitebeam and related species.
Microplants are rigorously tested and certified through the Scottish Government’s Plant Health Certification Scheme, which verifies that they meet plant health standards and are free from viral pathogens. In Vitro Microplants supports conservation initiatives with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and the National Trust for Scotland, helping protect botanical diversity and Scotland’s natural heritage. The company also undertakes research and development to advance in vitro techniques and contributes expertise to conservation projects.
