About International Olympic Academy
The International Olympic Academy (IOA) is a renowned institution situated near the ancient site of the Olympic Games in Greece. Founded in 1927, the IOA is dedicated to studying, enriching, and promoting Olympism and its values in relevance to current global issues of Olympic interest. The academy serves as a global institution for Olympic education and research, aiming to disseminate Olympic values in society and promote the humanistic dimension of Olympism.
By educating people on the Olympic ideals and principles, the IOA motivates individuals to apply their experiences and knowledge from their visit to the academy by promoting Olympic ideals in their respective countries. It also acts as an international forum for the exchange of ideas and enhances the role of National Olympic Academies (NOAs) worldwide. With the vision to be the leading institution for Olympic education, the IOA strives to integrate the Olympic Values into modern societies on a global scale.
The IOA's history dates back to a plan proposed in 1938, which was adopted by the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) and officially approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Over the years, the IOA has grown and developed its educational programs and facilities, with the premises being fully renovated in 2021 with the support of the IOC. Recognized for its contribution to the humanistic aim it serves and the Olympic Movement, the IOA has received prestigious awards, including the Bonacosa Award and the Olympic Cup.
