Formula Student is the world’s largest student competition, where the goal is to engineer, design and construct a formula racecar. The event takes place at the legendary Silverstone Circuits in Northamptonshire, England. Teams from different universities and colleges around the world meet to compete. There are loads of different criteria’s; economical, energy-efficient, design and performance to name a few. ION Racing is the formula student team, and the biggest student project, at the University of Stavanger, Norway. The team mostly consists of engineering students who devote a great portion of their spare time to work on the project. Our goal is to create the engineers of the future. As of 2022 the team has constructed a total of 9 cars, 7 of which being electrically powered. During the FSUK competition in 2022 the team won the title for the «most efficient car». About ION Racing UIS
ION Racing is a prestigious Formula Student team known for building racecars to compete in the esteemed Formula Student competition. With over 650 participating universities worldwide, this team consistently pushes the boundaries of student engineering. Since their inception in 2012, ION Racing has built a remarkable total of 8 cars, 6 of which have been electrical.
Their commitment to excellence is evident in the countless hours they invest in planning, designing, building, and testing their racecars. Their hard work culminates in an exhilarating competition at Silverstone in England, where they go head-to-head against the brightest young engineering students globally. At the University of Stavanger, ION Racing is the most prominent project, composed of 45 dedicated students who devote their free time to the endeavor.
While many team members study mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering, ION Racing welcomes individuals from any academic background. The only prerequisite is a genuine dedication to the team. As a non-profit organization, ION Racing relies on external help, whether it be software, materials, funding, or services.
