Iowa DNR

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (Iowa DNR) is a State of Iowa agency responsible for managing fish and wildlife programs, supporting healthy forests and prairies, protecting environmental quality, and providing opportunities for outdoor recreation. Its work spans fisheries, wildlife, forestry, geology, and the regulation and protection of air, land, and water resources.

Iowa DNR offers residents and visitors information and services for activities such as fishing, hunting, camping, boating, hiking, paddling, and wildlife watching. The agency manages and promotes access to state parks, forests, preserves, lakes, shooting ranges, trails, and wildlife management areas. It also provides hunting and fishing license information, harvest reporting, hunter education, conservation law enforcement, and support for landowners, volunteers, and wildlife rehabilitation.

Additional services include environmental guidance and reporting, permits and forms, grants, forestry resources, and educational programs. Through initiatives such as beach monitoring, lake restoration, invasive species management, and habitat assistance, Iowa DNR helps conserve the state’s natural resources while encouraging people to explore and care for Iowa’s outdoors.
