The IP Law Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding opportunity and supporting the next generation of professionals in the United States patent law field. Its mission is to help students interested in patent law prepare for, enter, and advance in the profession through career development, financial assistance, mentoring, and community-building initiatives.
A central offering is the Sidney B. Williams, Jr. Scholar Program, a merit-based program for students with STEM backgrounds who aspire to pursue intellectual property law and are applying to ABA-accredited law schools. Recognized Scholars can receive personalized career-preparation coaching, financial assistance during the admissions process, ongoing mentorship throughout law school, and eligibility for tuition grant awards of up to $30,000. The Foundation also shares career resources, internship and clerkship opportunities, and information about financing law school and patent law careers.
Students, employers, law firms, companies, and partner organizations can support the Foundation as contributors, mentors, internship or clerkship sponsors, partner liaisons, committee members, or trustees.
