The Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) is the professional representative body for community pharmacists in Ireland. It supports a nationwide membership of around 2,200 pharmacists working in more than 1,800 community pharmacies, advocating for the profession and helping members deliver quality care to patients and the public. Membership is open to eligible registered community pharmacists, with a separate student membership offering free access for students.
The IPU provides professional and business resources, including the IPU Review, which covers pharmacy-sector news, business development, financial guidance, continuing professional development and product information. Its services include the IPU Professional Academy’s training courses, resources for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and employment listings for the Irish pharmacy sector. The Union also offers information on medicines shortages, product recalls, pharmacy practice and business matters through its online resources and NHPC catalogue.
Through initiatives such as Safe Pharmacy, the IPU works with community pharmacies to help people experiencing domestic abuse access a phone and details of local support services.
