The Institute for Quality Assurance and Transparency in Healthcare (IQTIG) is an independent scientific institution and Germany’s central organization for legally mandated quality assurance in healthcare. Founded in 2015, it advises the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) and the Federal Ministry of Health on measuring and improving the quality of medical care. On behalf of the G-BA, IQTIG develops quality indicators and conducts quality assurance procedures, including 14 procedures under Germany’s directive for data-based, cross-institutional quality assurance.

Its work covers areas such as sepsis care, coronary interventions, heart surgery, psychiatric care and outpatient psychotherapy. IQTIG also analyzes healthcare data, evaluates quality assurance measures, and publishes reports, recommendations and methodological guidance. The institute provides specifications and information to support data collection and transmission, and shares findings through publications and tools such as the Federal Hospital Atlas.

By bringing together data, scientific methods and perspectives from patients and healthcare professionals, IQTIG supports transparent assessment of care and efforts to improve outcomes for patients across Germany
