She began her martial arts journey at the age of eight, inspired by her father, a taekwondo referee. She is a graduate of Hacettepe University’s Department of Physical Education and is currently pursuing her master's degree at Selçuk University.
İrem shifted her focus from kickboxing to taekwondo, earning her first gold medal at the 2014 European Under-21 Taekwondo Championships. Her remarkable achievements include gold medals at the 2015 World Championships in Chelyabinsk and the 2019 World Championships in Manchester.
