About Irish Deaf Society
The Irish Deaf Society (IDS) is the national Deaf-led representative organization in Ireland, dedicated to serving the interests and welfare of the Deaf community. As a Disabled Peoples Organization (DPO), IDS provides various education, personal, and social services for Deaf children, adults, and their families. IDS is a member of the World Federation of the Deaf and the European Union of the Deaf, collaborating with international Deaf representative bodies on societal issues that affect Deaf individuals.
Notably, IDS leads the ISL Act Cross Community Group, which includes organizations and service providers working in the Deaf community. With an estimated 5,000 primary ISL communicators and over 103,000 deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in Ireland, IDS advocates for their rights and wellbeing. During the ongoing Coronavirus Emergency, IDS offers ISL support and provides resources for the community.
