The Society for Irish Latin American Studies (SILAS), established on July 1, 2003, is dedicated to enhancing the understanding of the intricate relationships between Ireland and Latin America. With a focus on the history, settlement, and contributions of Irish emigrants in Latin America and their descendants, SILAS also examines the contemporary cultural and social interactions between Ireland and Latin American countries. SILAS promotes academic research through a range of initiatives, including the web-based journal Irish Migration Studies in Latin America, hosting conferences, and funding research fellowships.
