About International Society of Blood Transfusion
ISBT Central Office serves as the central hub for the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), a global knowledge network for Transfusion Medicine. Established in 1935, ISBT has grown into an international society that brings together transfusion medicine professionals from over 100 countries. Their main objective is to enhance the safety of blood transfusion worldwide.
The ISBT Central Office offers a range of products and services to support their mission. It houses 15 working parties, which are specialized groups of ISBT members dedicated to promoting science, research, and best practices across the transfusion chain. The society organizes international and regional congresses, both physical and virtual, as well as educational activities such as webinars, journal clubs, and workshops.
Advocacy for the welfare of blood donors and patients is a key focus for ISBT. They promote the Code of Ethics and maintain a non-state actor relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO). With a strategic plan that spans from 'vein to vein,' ISBT aims to be recognized as a global and inclusive society with a strong scientific focus.
