Island Bee Project

Island Bee Project is a New York City-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on urban beekeeping and pollinator conservation. Its mission extends beyond honey production: the organization helps build resilient city ecosystems by caring for honeybee colonies, supporting native pollinators, and connecting communities with nature. It installs and manages apiaries on office rooftops, residential properties, and community gardens, beginning with site assessments for forage, wind, flight paths, and local regulations. Professional beekeepers provide monthly hive checks and natural, chemical-free care, manage paperwork, and can bottle local honey. The project also creates nesting boxes for native mason and leafcutter bees.

Island Bee Project partners with companies through corporate ESG sponsorships and rooftop hive services. These partnerships help fund free STEM workshops and school field trips for New York City youth. Its education and outreach offerings include talks, workshops, live hive demonstrations, installation consultations, and youth learning programs. The nonprofit also provides a virtual academy and educational resources, bringing science-led stewardship and community engagement together to support urban biodiversity.
