Island Fox

Friends of the Island Fox (FIF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and well-being of California’s Channel Island foxes. Through public education, research support, and fundraising, FIF helps protect these small foxes, which live on six of the Channel Islands and serve as apex predators in their island habitats. The organization shares information about island fox biology, habitat, health, and conservation, and provides resources for teachers and the public, including videos, audio, newsletters, and educational materials.

FIF supports scientific studies into fox health and adaptations, including research using blood samples, DNA, gene expression, and stable isotopes. It also helps fund practical conservation work such as population counts, health checks, vaccinations, disease surveillance, and radio-collar programs. These efforts have contributed to the foxes’ recovery from critically endangered status.

The organization engages supporters through online presentations, outreach events, and a shop featuring items such as shirts, pins, stickers, and fox-themed products. Proceeds from merchandise sales support island fox conservation.
