Islandpferde vom Nypasthal

Islandpferde vom Nypasthal is a small, family-run Icelandic horse breeding operation and pony club in Jesteburg, near Hamburg, Germany. Founded by the Thordsen/Cotterell family, it combines horse breeding, care and riding activities with a strong emphasis on respect for the animals and their natural needs. The horses live year-round in mixed herds across several pastures, and, where possible, remain with the group from birth through old age.

Only a few mares are bred each year, allowing the family to focus on raising and developing young horses. The breeding program traces its beginnings to a dark chestnut mare from Iceland, whose name inspires the family’s descendants. Through the Nypasthal Pony Club, children can learn about horse behavior, herd life and considerate handling, as well as riding.

The club has grown from informal outings with very young children into a community where young riders increasingly travel out with their ponies. The family also hosts events, including its Wiedenhofer Horse Festival, featuring music, dance and performances by pony club members
