ISNI, the International Standard Name Identifier, is an ISO-certified global standard for distinguishing people and organizations involved in creating and distributing creative works. Established as ISO 27729, it assigns persistent, unique numbers to public names, helping resolve ambiguity and ensure that works are correctly attributed across catalogs, databases, and the global supply chain. Its scope includes researchers, inventors, writers, artists, performers, producers, publishers, aggregators, and other contributors, as well as organizations and groups.

The ISNI International Agency oversees the service and supports a worldwide community of registration agencies, members, and direct data contributors. The ISNI database brings together records from 100 sources and connects with other identifier systems, including DOI, ISBN, ISSN, ISRC, ISAN, and ISWC.
