Independent Support Services

Independent Support Services (ISS) is a leading not-for-profit agency that provides administrative support and facilitates self-directed and individualized supports to people with developmental disabilities. With offices in Long Island and Monticello, NY, ISS empowers individuals to make their own choices and lead self-determined lives. As an Fiscal Intermediary (FI), ISS focuses on delivering services in alignment with New York State's OPWDD Self-Direction plan.

They offer a range of resources and supports to help participants self-direct their lives and create their own paths. ISS does not provide direct services to avoid conflicts of interest. ISS has grown exponentially since its inception in 2003, and today they serve over 1,700 participants across Long Island, NYC, the Hudson Valley, and the Capital and Central Districts.

Their mission is to provide person-centered, self-directed supports that enable individuals to actualize their dreams. They believe that every person with a developmental disability can lead a self-determined life and achieve happiness and success through empowerment and the freedom to make their own decisions. Operating as a co-manager, ISS supports the implementation of self-direction by allowing individuals and their families to identify services and supports, have employer and budget authority, and co-manage an approved budget with the agency as the employer of record.
