About ISSP
The International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) is a cross-national collaboration that conducts annual surveys on topics relevant to the social sciences. Founded in 1984 by Australia, Germany, Great Britain and the United States, it has grown to include members representing a range of cultures around the world. Each member represents one nation and may be an academic organization, university or survey agency.
The programme provides a shared framework for international research, enabling researchers to explore social issues across countries and compare perspectives. Its survey topics are organized for browsing by year and subject, and the site offers information about the ISSP’s organization, methodology, publications and history. Researchers and other interested users can access survey data and documentation free of charge through the programme’s data archive.
The ISSP also supports its research community through news, membership information and user conferences. Its work has involved more than one million respondents since its foundation, contributing a substantial body of cross-national survey data for social science research.
