Itai Doshin

Itai Doshin Aikido Club is a martial arts club in Taunton, Somerset, offering instruction in traditional Japanese Aikido. The club is directly connected to Japan through its membership in the Owari Aikikai, chaired by Seizo Takimoto Shihan, an eighth-degree Aikikai instructor. Owari Aikikai is registered with the Aikido World Headquarters, the Hombu Dojo in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Aikido was developed by Morihei Ueshiba and combines martial practice with philosophical and religious influences. Its approach aims to help practitioners defend themselves while avoiding injury to an attacker. At Itai Doshin, students practise techniques with partners or groups, changing partners to experience different body types, abilities and approaches. Men and women train together under the guidance of a sensei.

The club holds adult classes for students aged 16 and over at its Taunton dojo on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Its website also provides information about lessons, instructors, lineage, weapons, prices and events, alongside a gallery featuring the dojo, training and club activities.
