The International Vegetarian Union (IVU) is a global network of independent organizations working to promote vegetarianism worldwide. Founded in 1908, it describes itself as the world’s oldest vegetarian organization and brings individuals and groups together to strengthen cooperation across the plant-based movement. Membership is open to individuals, organizations, corporate partners, and patrons, with options to join through annual or lifetime support.

IVU advances its mission through events, education, resources, and advocacy. It supports the World Vegfest and international congresses, shares news and articles, and produces a podcast featuring voices and developments from the global vegetarian and vegan communities. Its educational materials include vegan nutrition guides for healthcare professionals and the general public, resources for children and adolescents, food substitution advice, and information on institutional endorsements of plant-based diets. Through its Vegan Food Academy, IVU also offers recipes, ingredient and food guides, and practical cooking resources. The organization maintains historical material on vegetarian thought and practice, and provides travel information such as vegan restaurant and accommodation listings.
