IWA is a sake brand founded by Richard Geoffroy, the former chef de cave of Dom Pérignon, whose work there spanned 28 years. Rooted in Japan and shaped for an international audience, IWA brings Geoffroy’s pursuit of beauty to a tradition with a thousand-year history. Its sake is produced using traditional methods at Shiraiwa, a purpose-designed brewery in Tateyama, Toyama, where mountains, farmland, sea, and community shape the project’s identity.
The brewery was created to bring production and hospitality together, reflecting IWA’s principles of inclusivity, collaboration, and connection to place. IWA’s range includes Assemblage bottlings numbered 1 through 7, Reserves, and an Artist Series, available through its online shop. The brand’s approach extends to its presentation: designer Marc Newson shaped the bottle, while calligraphy and design collaborators contributed its distinctive mark.
Architect Kengo Kuma designed the Shiraiwa kura, with support from Ryuichiro Masuda of the Toyama-based, family-owned Masuda Shuzo. IWA combines Japanese craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and a contemporary vision of sake
