Ixchel

Ixchel Acompañamiento en Salud is a health-access organization working in Chiapas, Mexico, to help people receive dignified, timely, and culturally appropriate care through public health services. It views health as a fundamental human right and focuses on supporting people facing complex medical journeys or barriers to care. Its services include medical and logistical accompaniment, guidance on accessing health services, and case management for cancer, hemodialysis, and palliative care.

Ixchel also provides interpretation in Indigenous languages, including Tseltal, Tsotsil, and Tojol-ab’al, helping patients communicate with medical teams and navigate hospitals. Through this intercultural communication work, the organization builds connections between health systems and Indigenous communities. Ixchel operates across six public hospitals in four municipalities of Chiapas and offers online advice during business hours.

Its work also includes strategic advocacy to help local improvements develop into public policies that support the right to health. The organization shares reports and publications and invites donations to extend its services to more people
