J Athletics

J Athletics Canada is a Japanese-language sports community based in Toronto, Canada, serving families and participants across the Greater Toronto Area. The organization emphasizes the educational value of sport and aims to make physical activity accessible to people of different ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Its programs include soccer, basketball, baseball, and a preschool class, alongside sports and fitness activities. The community welcomes children growing up overseas as well as participants from youth through senior age groups, encouraging them to enjoy sport at a level suited to their abilities.

Founded with the aim of creating an environment where more people can engage with sports, J Athletics Canada also promotes interaction between generations and community building through shared activities. Its roots include soccer coaching experience with the Japanese Football Club of Toronto, where founder Makoto Umigami served as a school representative and coach from 2006. With the guiding idea that “sport can be a tool,” the organization seeks to support young people who can contribute to Japanese and Japanese-Canadian communities in the future.
