James Y. Shih is a talented filmmaker and storyteller rooted in the rich cultural tapestry of the Asian-American experience. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, he honed his skills in economics and theatre at UC San Diego, where he also gained stage and film experience as an actor. His journey took him to Taipei, where he expanded his expertise in production as a production assistant and lead performer.
With a diverse portfolio, James is known for his work on several impactful projects, including the feature documentary "Fight Life" and the short films “Distance” and “Moment,” which have been showcased at national film festivals. His notable achievement includes co-producing the acclaimed sci-fi film “Advantageous,” which premiered at Sundance 2015.
Based in Los Angeles, James continues to explore impactful narratives through his latest project, “Ahma & Alan.” He is dedicated to highlighting personal stories from the Asian/Asian-American community, aiming to entertain while shedding light on shared human experiences.
