Founded in October 2019, the Jamii Asilia Centre (JAC), meaning Indigenous Peoples Centre in Swahili, is a youth-led nonprofit organization. At JAC, we are dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of indigenous peoples by engaging in activities related to socio-economics and sustainable, culturally relevant development. We believe in championing for inclusion and equity through a coordinated and systematic approach.

One of our main focus areas is Indigenous Peoples Rights, where we run programs aimed at safeguarding and advancing the collective rights of indigenous communities. We also tackle important issues such as governance, self-determination, climate action, and biodiversity. As an indigenous-led organization, we actively participate in climate action and biodiversity frameworks.

Additionally, we work on policy and research initiatives to influence government and international agency programs that impact our indigenous communities. Our goal is to ensure that the voices of indigenous peoples are heard and their rights are respected and protected.
