Jamník

Spolek Jamník is a community association based in Jemnice in southwestern Moravia, Czech Republic. Founded in 2013, it focuses on researching and promoting the history of former mining activity in the Jemnice area. The beginnings of local mining are uncertain; published theories connect them with Celtic prospecting. The association also explores the possible relationship between mining and the town’s earlier name, Jamnice, and the term “jamníci,” used for miners who extracted ore by digging pits.

Spolek Jamník shares its work through articles, photographs, and public activities. These include guided visits to the Terezie mining gallery and participation in the Stříbrná Jihlava event. Its research has also addressed historic mining sites and a possible medieval prospecting settlement. The group’s work draws on discoveries such as an underground space found during sewer construction on Dačická Street in 2011 and identified as an ore-mining gallery. The association is supported by the town of Jemnice and provides information about its statutes, activities, and local heritage through its website and Instagram.
