About JAMO
The Japanese American Museum of Oregon (JAMO) at Naito Center is a cultural venue and invaluable resource for exploring the rich history and culture of Japanese Americans in the Pacific Northwest. Formerly known as the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center, JAMO aims to share and preserve the Japanese American experience in Portland's Old Town neighborhood, once known as Japantown. At JAMO, visitors can discover the Issei immigration and early life in Oregon, learn about Nihonmachi (Japantown), explore the impact of Executive Order 9066 and the Portland Assembly Center, and immerse in contemporary Nikkei life.
The museum also offers engaging exhibitions, including the upcoming A Sense of Place: the Art of George Tsutakawa, and the permanent exhibit Oregon’s Nikkei: An American Story of Resilience.
