Jan Helmer Olsen

Jan Helmer Olsen is a professional photographer and filmmaker based in Karasjok, Finnmark, within the Arctic Circle. Working in photography and film since 2005, he has specialized in drone filming since 2010 and is approved by the Civil Aviation Authority for commercial aerial work. His services include photography, filming, and film production, with a focus on northern lights, Arctic landscapes, Sámi culture, and reindeer herding. Using cameras and drones, Olsen captures the changing light, dramatic nature, and distinctive perspectives of northern Norway, often working in extreme cold and during the polar night.

His portfolio includes landscape and aerial photography, Sámi-themed images, nature and wildlife pictures, and films. Olsen’s assignments have included work for international organizations and broadcasters such as Netflix, BBC, National Geographic, NRK, and TV2, as well as coverage of the Finnmarksløpet sled dog race.
