About Joint Allocation Office
Jao is a leading service provider for Transmission System Operators (TSOs). They offer a wide range of products and services to facilitate electricity trading between countries. One of their notable projects is the Nemo Link Interconnector, a joint venture between National Grid (Great Britain) and Elia (Belgium).
This subsea cable connects the GB and Belgium electricity systems, enabling customers to trade electricity between the two countries. Through Nemo Link, customers have the opportunity to buy capacity up to 1000MW in either direction (GB-BE or BE-GB) via explicit and implicit auctions. In explicit auctions, market parties can purchase long-term physical transmission rights from Nemo Link.
They can then choose to nominate their capacity or receive compensation through the Regional Nomination Platform. At implicit auctions, market participants can buy capacity and electricity in a single transaction through the market coupling mechanism at the day-ahead stage. All transactions are facilitated by Nominated Electricity Market Operators (NEMOs)
